In this season of Thanksgiving, let me first share my gratitude for the many talented faculty and staff with whom I work every day to make GRU and GRHealth the very best institutions they can be. We are all fortunate to be able to build this institution to better serve the citizens of Georgia. We have already achieved more than many thought possible, but the best news is that there is much more yet to come.
Regarding my recent visits to Nevada, I was honored to have been considered for the presidency of the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Our institutions have much in common, and during the interview process I learned a great deal about the work they are doing. At the same time, during the course of my visit to Las Vegas I was able to share the exciting story of all that we have accomplished at GRU.
Presidential searches are complex and require the balancing of many different institutional interests. Their assessment of what was best for UNLV led them in a different direction. I wish them every success.
As we all count our blessings over the next few weeks, know that I am counting each of you who make such a difference for our students, for our patients, for our colleagues, and for our community.
