Eddie Mendoza, owner of Cucina 503 on Fury’s Ferry Road, will be opening a new restaurant a mile or so down the road in January.

Local, in the shopping center at the corner of Evans to Lock and Fury’s Ferry Roads, will serve what Mendoza calls ‘tavern comfort food’. “Stuff I would eat on my day off,” Mendoza clarified.
The restaurant is set to be open six days a week (closed Sundays) for lunch and dinner.
“We’ll be grinding our own meat for a signature meatloaf and smoking brisket on one of two Rec Tec grills we have in the kitchen,” Mendoza added.
Beer and wine will be available, and the concept is going to allow the staff to be flexible in their offerings, same as Mendoza’a first restaurant in Augusta, Kitchen 1454 on Walton Way. Mendoza closed that location when he opened Cucina five years ago.

“We’ll have farmers dropping off fresh vegetables like we did downtown at 1454,” says Mendoza.
The restaurant is expected to employ 25 staff members.
Stay tuned for the opening date announcement.
