Evans Fitness Club welcomes members of the Marshall Family Y in Evans
After a decade on Belair Road, The Marshall Family Y has decided not to renew their lease on the current facility.
“We want to continue to serve the Evans community and will continue to do so through programming,” according to the Marshall Family Y website. The Board and staff worked over the past two years to find a new location for the Marshall Y, yet “unfortunately, there were no financially feasible locations found.”
With the closest facility eight miles away in Grovetown (Steiner Branch Family YMCA, 218 Partnership Drive),
the Y reached out to the management of Evans Fitness Center to see if a partnership could be formed, so the current Marshall Y members would continue to have a place to work out a little closer to home.
Lisa Katz, owner of Evans Fitness Club, said “We are just so excited to be able to partner with the Y to lend a hand during this challenging time. We have seen community coming together, and it is something we are very grateful to be a part of.”
The locally owned EFC is now honoring the membership agreement with all the members of the Marshall Family Y for the same rate they were paying at the Y. The Marshall Family Y members will still be allowed to visit any Y in the CSRA as well.
While this agreement is for the next twelve months, the partnership will last far longer, all parties agreed.
“When Danny talks about the partnership, he speaks in terms of a long term partnership.” said McCauley. “Although we did close the gym part of the Y, the programming side is still growing.”
“They (Evans Fitness Club) see a value in continuing to serve from a wellness and exercise standpoint, and they aren’t doing youth sports and camps and things, but we are. We really complement each other for the Evans community. They are a family facility and they have families coming in every day. Those families have needs that we’re providing services for,” McCauley said.
“For us to be able to have a presence there and promote to their members all the wonderful youth Y programming we offer, that is an added benefit for them. We’re giving EFC members a discount on Y programming as well.”
“It’s a good fit from a wellness standpoint,” McCauley said. “EFC currently serves that population in Evans and we’ll continue with the youth perspective.”
Although the Marshall Family Y did merge with the Grovetown location, the programming side of the YMCA is still growing. “We still have youth sports running and camps running,” McCauley said. “They are allowing us to set up in their facility and promote those youth programming opportunities seasonally.”
Katz is excited to show EFC’s amenities off to a new group of customers. “It really is a great thing for our current members. While they’re here working out, they’ll be able to learn about and enroll their children in any of the wonderful youth programming the Y is so well known for.”
Evans Fitness Club is a state-of-the-art health club in the heart of Evans which opened in 2012.
The first floor of the expansive 60,000-square-foot center houses the facility’s 22-foot-tall rock-climbing wall, a steel octagon cage for kickboxing classes, an artificial turf 40-yard sprint track, racquetball courts and spinning room, as well as weight machines and free weight areas.
The second floor includes a cardio deck and cardio theater, sports training areas, and separate spaces for yoga, pilates, aerobics and other classes, which allows many different classes at once. (Current class schedule HERE)
Each locker room features showers, saunas and steam rooms. The day-care services for members are so nice children really enjoy accompanying their parents to the gym. There is a basketball court and many other activities for the kids to take advantage of.

“Our long term plan for the association is to serve the Columbia County population at our Grovetown site. We own property there.
Some of those timelines are probably pushed back now. But the overview plan is to build a Wheeler Road style location-aquatic, gym type facility with fields. Really a home for programming.”Family Y of Greater Augusta COO Catie McCauley
