Local artist Dan Dyches will be displaying his vibrant acrylics on canvas at Thursday’s artist reception from 5-7 p.m. at Hire Grounds Cafe. Enjoy light refreshments and support the local arts scene.
Dyches, of Martinez, works in acrylics on canvas in a vibrant impressionist style with a bright color palette and expressive brushwork.
Dyches is self-taught and has a myriad of pieces on display for sale this month at the cafe.
“Dan’s paintings just light up a room. I encourage everyone to come meet him and enjoy what he’s brought to share with us during this show,” said Ashley Brown, senior manager of community outreach at Goodwill.
“My favorite subjects to paint include what I call rainy night reflections with lots of dramatic color and atmosphere,” noted Dyches.

Hire Grounds Café specializes in gourmet coffees, smoothies, sandwiches, salads, gelato and fresh-made desserts. All proceeds from the café support Goodwill’s job training and placement services. The venue features a new artist each month, with a portion from the sale of their artwork also supporting Goodwill’s efforts to change lives by building career pathways out of poverty.
In addition to Thursday’s reception Dyches’ art can be seen during Hire Grounds regular business hours Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
“If I am able to bring a smile to a viewer’s face or make an emotional connection with a painting, then I have accomplished my goal,” said Dyches.
Hire Grounds is featuring Dyches’ art through the end of the month.
