For the fourth year in a row, Historic Augusta has announced its Endangered Properties List in an effort to save some of the city's treasured buildings.
Included in this year's list are six properties: the Jacob Phinizy House on Greene Street, the Immaculate Conception Academy Campus on Laney-Walker Boulevard, the Pontiac Master Auto Services building on Telfair Street, the Hallock Cottage in the Monte Sano area of Summerville, the Lyons-Callaghan House on James Brown Boulevard and a handful of private family cemeteries around Richmond County.
Historic Augusta created the Endangered Properties List, much like those compiled by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, with the intent of attracting the attention of investors, politicians and other interested groups who might not otherwise be aware of the historic properties.
The list is also meant to help to focus the community’s energy on historic buildings with the greatest need throughout the city.
Over the past several years, Historic Augusta has helped save the Martha Lester School on Broad Street, the Red Star Cafe on Ninth Street and the Stovall-Barnes House on Greene Street.
