Blackmarket "Blackmarket" Release Date: June 24 AUGUSTA, GA - Swinging from beginning to end in high-energy angst and clever lyrical contraptions, this self-titled EP by the upcoming punk band Black Market is a joyride of interlocking sounds in a sea of emotion. Built around a thriving bass line and a pummeling smatter of hard-charging guitar chords, the record roars from start to finish with energy and passion, which is served best at loud volumes in the summer heat.
Teaming up with producer Sean Slade (Radiohead, Dinosaur Jr. and Hole) and the technical prowess of Matthew Ellard (Morphine, Weezer and Elliot Smith), the band opens their latest chapter showcasing their undeniable chemistry and telling stories of days gone by. The record traces the last few years journey of Black Market with distinctive narratives and a glimpse at life beyond the stage for these young rockers. After finding significant success including record releases and sold-out shows in Tokyo, the band is pounding their way into the American national scene with a swagger and caress long absent from the punk rockers of recent note. Highlights can be found throughout the record depending on the listener’s interest. For those in favor of smash-out-loud-storm rocking-til-the-walls-fall-down jams the opening track “Magic Tricks” offers a tantalizing foray into a drum meets electric dual explosion. For listeners seeking deeper meaning and lyrical talent in their feisty music, turn to the chilling “White Lie” for a brutal look at loneliness. Otherwise, the blistering tempos and angst-riddled exhortations that characterize the best of the emo-punk union in recent years can be found in the smashing chorus of “Sheila” and the breakneck reiterations of “Bad Call." Finally, the record offers a true gem explored in original context over the smooth mixture of charging beats with swinging guitar riffs in the haughty “Drag Addict."
Throughout the piece, the chemistry and energy combine to form an explosion of raw emotion in a stunning collection of collaborative passion.
