I just got my property taxes (Columbia County) for 2009 and they are $1,048.26. For the past eight years, these are my property tax amounts: 2009 — $1,048.26,
2008 — $831.59, 2007 — $670.16, 2006 — $571.28, 2005 — $529.51, 2004 — $512.15, 2003 — $475.24 and 2002 — $468.94. If my math is correct — and it is — that’s a 224 percent increase in the last seven years! Are you smarter than a fifth grader? Damn straight, I sure am!
A whine to the oh-so-compassionatepeople complaining about the EBT cards. Have you Einsteins ever thought that those people were buying food for a family of six for the whole month? There are only two people in my household and groceries cost over $300 a month for us and that’s not everything. So wipe your tears and get a life.
Glad there’s others out there that think like me that Harley Drew has lost his mind. The old man is way past his prime and the things he says should really be evaluated. Time to call it a day, Harley! Your last three brain cells are too busy fighting with each other and causing you to say things that only made sense in 1950.
Hi people! Hope you enjoyed Veterans Day off. Soldiers on Camp Red Cloud (Korea) worked like it was just another day!
Augusta will be progressive enough when the Riverwalk is level with Reynolds Street. Obviously, the North Augusta river side is doing very well. We need to copy the concepts that work well. Augusta needs to stop collecting white elephants. Who out there has climbed onto Riverwalk and risked getting mugged lately?
Trains. The preverbal Augusta problemis still with us. The sight and sound of them irritates us. Train stops need to be overpassed before Augusta can truly be a great city. No one wants to be sitting idle for a train, wondering when they might be carjacked. Trains do add to the Augusta ghetto atmosphere. We would not want to take away this well-deserved distinction, would we? This infrastructure problem is shovel ready and stimulus ripe!
Why do we always have to scratch our itch? Won’t it go away on its own, and how does scratching make the itch go away? I’m so confused. This is annoying.
If New Orleans is the Big Easy, then Augusta is the Big Ghetto.
What ever became of that fiasco with Betty Beard? Man, never have I seen something go so quiet so fast in all my life! If that had been a white woman, it would have gone national, she would have been put in jail, the NAACP would be harassing her family and accusing them of being racists!
This goes out to the moron who made the comment in this week’s Whine Line about not caring about Best Band nod for locals… How in the world does he or she thinks their favorite band (probably mainstream) became famous? They play in their local areas, dumb butt. I am going to support local musicians... and there are others who feel the same way as I do. Go ahead, Mr. or Ms. “I’m gonna let MTV, BET or CMT dictate what is music to my ignorant ears.”
This is a whine for WBBQ: When do you start the Christmas music? I tried calling to find out, but it seems that the only thing your very rude receptionist knows is how to answer a phone.
People who use the electronic carts at stores because they are too fat and lazy to actually walk make me sick. Get off your a** and actually push a cart to the Twinkie aisle. Stores should get rid of these carts. If you don’t own one, you don’t need one.
Don’t Jehovah’s Witnesses consider the possibility that people have sleeping babies before they knock unwelcomed on doors? Intruding on people’s lives is a pretty crappy practice to follow. I’m going to find a religion that makes it OK for me to knock on your door at 3 a.m. every morning — with my screaming baby.
Mothers who refuse to let their daughters have lives without them, and who try to live vicariously every moment through them, are sad. Get a life of your own.
All you ghetto male students at Augusta Tech need to take some classes on respect for women. Rapping about Apple Bottom butts when I walk past and yelling “Hey Boo” 90 times until I turn around is not going to get you anywhere. Grow up. Go to class.
It really sucks that the small colleges in Augusta offer nursing and medical programs for careers which are in demand, but have waiting lists for the program to start that are two years long. Time to expand, maybe?
I am a military wife with two children and was laid off from my job six months ago. My husband is currently in Iraq fighting your war and, yes, we have to use EBT benefits. Perhaps stop and think that the person you are judging at the checkout may be someone who has paid taxes all their lives and has fallen victim to the economy. Here’s hoping you never lose everything and need to use the services that are so beneath you. Next time my husband calls, I will be sure to tell him he isn’t doing enough to support his family. P.S.: Perhaps do some research and see how many of our lower-ranked military families need EBT to help feed their families while moms and dads are deployed... you might shut your trap.
I’m a frequent whiner at your paper. After reading the story about the man committing buggery with the woman’s horse, I wish the Savannah River was a little bit wider. I’ve always said you people were backwards; you just validated my point.
