Golf fans, take a seat; music fans, get on your feet — it’s almost time for some major raging.
Yes — the week of golf craziness is almost here and the kickass lineup that is Major Rager is now only days away. You’ve read our interview with Warren Hayes of Gov’t Mule, you’ve seen the ads, and perhaps you think you know all there is to know about the Major Rager.
So, just to blow your mind, here’s some stuff about the concert that you may not know, but totally should:
The event is part all-ages, part 21 and over
This is thanks to the pre-Rager block party featuring the Scarlet Begonias, and the outdoor gigs at The Augusta Common. The block party will take place from 3 p.m. until the gates open to the concert at 5 p.m. (the concert is scheduled to end at midnight). But for those who are 21 and over, the party doesn’t end there — Sky City is hosting the after party, which kicks off at midnight with Funk You and The Omega Moos, a side project of Umphrey’s McGee and The New Deal.
It’s a smorgasbord of musical tastes
Such a tired phrase, but honestly there really is something for everyone here; from indie folk to full-blown New York funk to serious Southern rock, downtown Augusta is about to treat folks to one of the best concerts of the year. Local talents Phillip Lee, Michael Baideme, and Funk You will be supporting the Revivalists, Lettuce, The Omega Moos, and Gov’t Mule. Don’t know everyone I’m talking about? Get Googling all their videos and turn the volume up!
Proceeds will go to Turn Back the Block
Friends with Benefits has committed the proceeds of the concert to a local nonprofit as a way of giving back to the community. Downtown’s Harrisburg area has seen repair and growth through a series of grassroots projects, and the efforts of good people such as those from Turn Back the Block. This nonprofit organization is focused on revitalizing the Harrisburg neighborhood by restoring existing property to a livable standard, and promoting responsible home ownership. You can bring your chairs
I hate not knowing if I’m about to be faced with a sea of tightly-packed tall people or seated on a bench, which is why I want you to know a seating area will be available at the back of the audience area, while all us who want to dance will have room at the front. So yes, you can bring your chairs or blankets, but leave the coolers and pets at home. Considering many thousands of people are anticipated, we just need to be considerate of each other… while we’re all partying our butts off.
It’s playing live on Sirius XM
If for some bizarre reason you cannot get to the concert (spring break, anyone?) and you still want to hear the concert, the entire gig will be played live on Sirius XM. You can find Augusta’s Major Rager on channel 29.
