Located in historic downtown Augusta, Savannah River Brewing Company opened its doors in early 2017. This year’s Metro’s Best 2019 Brewery is a unique venue where customers can enjoy craft beers in the midst of a state-of-the-art brewhouse.
The family business, founded by brothers Steve and Dave Ellison, has generations of family history rooted in the state of Georgia.
When discussing the idea of opening a brewery several years back, the founders wanted to find a Georgia city or town with a relatively small, intimate downtown area, one where efforts and investments to create a brewery would have a lasting positive impact on the city and local community. After looking at numerous options, they chose Augusta.
The founders purchased an old, neglected warehouse and proceeded to transform it into a state-of-the art brewery.
Today, the Brewhouse occupies 16,000+ square feet of the facility, with significant room for expansion as growth dictates. The brewhouse delivers 420 barrels of simultaneous fermenting capacity in a single cycle, which equals over 13,000 gallons or nearly 140,000 cans of beer per cycle, or approximately 1.7 Million cans annually.
The facility offers an indoor, air-conditioned Taproom with 15 Taps serving a wide-variety of large, small and specialty batch craft beers. The pouring room also serves as an inhouse R&D department, where staff is able to receive immediate customer feedback. The large space also affords complete visibility into the Brewhouse.
