In case you’ve already forgotten, Allen beat incumbent Democrat John Barrow after a punishing and expensive campaign last month. Even though Barrow moved to Augusta after he was drawn out of the district by state Republicans, Allen was always the real hometown boy in the race, yet now it seems as if he’s giving his home the cold shoulder.
Is it simply an oversight, or does his venture out into the district signify the beginning of his reelection campaign?
The Forumgate controversy aside — or who knows, maybe even because of it — Allen ran a strong campaign in a year that turned out to be a good one for Republicans, and though he never really clicked with a lot of voters, many of whom were more scared of the alternative that was presented to them should he fail to win than they were galvanized by Allen himself, he nevertheless earned his time in Washington, and a Thank You tour seems like a pretty good start toward ensuring he’s not forgotten even before he gets there.
But if that’s what he’s looking to do, why not do it here at home, too? There are plenty of places to hold an event. Many of them he even built himself.
