The national headlines this week were harsh:
“Mom loses 5 kids over sex party with daughter’s friends” — USA Today
“Horny Georgia mom busted after AA sponsor told cops she had sex with daughter’s friends at naked Twister party”– New York Daily News
“Georgia Woman Arrested for Hosting ‘Naked Twister’ Party for Underage Daughter,” — People Magazine
Apparently, when the story is about sex, teens, an alcoholic mom, a naked game of Twister and an allegedly 10-inch body part, the world wants to know all about it.
Unfortunately, the story the world is so interested in this week involves a 35-year-old mother, Rachel Lenhardt, from Evans, Ga.
The tale that Lenhardt told her Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor is now legendary.
Some believe that the story has got to be exaggerated. Others believe this is clearly a woman who needs some serious professional help.
But, more importantly, it’s a horrific and disturbing tale involving minors. And, yet, for much of the nation, it appears to be one of the most intriguing news stories to hit the internet in the past few weeks.
Just the fact that so many people around the world are finding this story tremendously fascinating compared to all the other horrific things going on around the world, should concern most everyone.
Rachel Lynn Lenhardt, 35, of Evans, was arrested this past week and charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of minors, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. She was later released from jail after posting $3,200 bond.
During a meeting with her newly appointed AA sponsor, Lenhardt (who was only four days sober) admitted that her 16-year-old texted her in early April and asked if she and some of her friends could come over “to party.” Lenhardt replied, “Come on, let’s party.”
Well, it was a party. Just a really depraved one.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff Office’s police report, Lenhardt allowed her daughter and friends to smoke marijuana and drink her alcohol in her home. That’s bad, but it gets soooo much worse.
Then, she and the group of minors decided to play a game of naked “Twister” in the living room. As the teens continued to play, Lenhardt snuck off to a bathroom where she allegedly had sex with an 18-year-old male attending the party.
But it didn’t stop there. Lenhardt told her AA sponsor that she was still “horny” and brought her sex toys out into the living room and began using them on herself in front of the group of teens.
All right, if you’ve read enough to make you sick, please don’t continue because it gets worse.
So, the group continued the “party” in the home’s hot tub, where, Lord only knows what happened. But Lenhardt told her AA sponsor that she went to sleep in her bed, but was awakened to find her daughter’s 16-year-old boyfriend having sex with her. (Just FYI: If you are asleep and some unknown guy is having intercourse with you, that’s not “sex.” It’s rape. And it’s serious. If nothing else, someone needs to have a long and very honest talk with that very confused and probably, now deeply disturbed, young boy.)
However, what was Lenhardt’s alleged response to the incident?
She apparently sat down and talked to her 16-year-old daughter about it and told the AA sponsor that her daughter “felt guilty because the 16-year-old was 10-inches long and huge, and if she had just been able to take it he wouldn’t have needed to rape her mother.”
Good Lord. Now, the daughter feels guilty because she couldn’t “take it” and her boyfriend “needed” to rape her mother.
No. 1, the daughter shouldn’t have to “take” anything.
No. 2, the boyfriend needs to get very familiar with his right hand.
No. 3, the mother needs to have a long talk with her daughter. Lines were crossed that can never be uncrossed. Ever.
And finally, everyone in this situation needs to talk to someone. A therapist, a counselor or parent. Someone. Because this terrible event could completely alter the future of some of these young folks involved in this incident. They don’t understand what went down.
Sure, they saw what they saw (if it really happened the way Lenhardt said it did), but they can’t comprehend it. Most adults can’t (and don’t want to) comprehend it. They need some help.
Do you know why they need help?
Well, this “Naked Teen Twister” story about Lenhardt was featured just this Saturday on E! Online’s website, squeezed between a story about Kylie Jenner dying her hair pink and actress Sofia Vergara slamming her ex-fiancé’s lawsuit over frozen embryos.
How messed up is that?
But to make matters worse, eonline.com quoted the 16-year-old daughter’s tweet about the incident.
“Yes my mom was arrested. Yes she made some mistakes. Yes she is an alcoholic. Yea I’ve f–ked up too. But nobody deserves this s–t. So stop,” she is quoted as tweeting.
If that doesn’t make you stop and think about all the damage being done regarding this story, nothing will.
A 16-year-old girl is defending her alcoholic mother, who was raped by the girl’s own boyfriend and her mother just lost custody of her and the other four children, ages 4, 6, 8 and 10.
So the world might want to move on. This isn’t a “sex” story.
It’s just a very, very sad story.
