Latoya Louise Bell, 31, has been charged with murder and cruelty to children in the second degree following the death of an infant that she left in a hot car.
The 8-month-old little girl was discovered by family members on Sunday strapped in her car seat inside a vehicle with the door open along the 3900 block of Old Waynesboro Road.
The child suffered severe burns from exposure to the sun and was pronounced dead at University Hospital’s emergency room.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, investigators learned that Bell, who is the cousin and godmother to the infant, had left the 8-month-old child in the vehicle, entered her home and fell asleep.
Family members later arrived at the home and found the child unresponsive in the vehicle that was parked in the yard. The child was then rushed by family members to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Bell has been booked into the Richmond County Jail.
