The progressive rock and jam band Phish certainly has its fans. Among them, Runaway Gin — the world’s most active Phish tribute band.
A fixture at the Charleston Pour House where they play every Sunday, the band constantly tours the greater southeast region. Runaway Gin has played many Phish after parties and is known for adopting “Phishy” gimmicks, such as the time they played an entire gig consisting of songs Phish has covered. The band also played a birthday show for Trey Anastasio — the founding member, lead guitarist and vocalist of Phish — during which they spelled out “Happy Birthday” using the first letter of each song.
Runaway Gin’s also known for putting their own mark on Phish’s vast back catalog, capturing the essence of the band while crafting shows that have a contemporary feel and unique twists to older songs. This summer, the band sold out the Hard Rock Café “Fare Thee Well” after party on July 4 in Chicago and catapulted themselves into the national music scene.
And while you may think you know Phish, Runaway Gin will show you otherwise. The band’s song list is constantly growing as they consistently push the boundaries of improvisation in live performances.
Like their idols, Runaway Gin never plays the same show or jam the same way twice — every show is a unique experience and every moment yields pure artistic creation.
