Owner of Village Deli is Opening Cantina Locale in Daniel Village Shopping Center “February-ish”
Heather Chancey has worked at the Village Deli in Daniel Village on Wrightsboro Road off and on for twenty of the Deli’s thirty two years.
She purchased the restaurant from long time owners Les and Lorna Barrett a few years ago, and is now in the process of opening a new restaurant a few doors down in the former Yo Pizza, which she is calling Cantina Locale.
Chancey has taken her time with the space, gutting it entirely and starting with a vanilla box. In addition to the inside space, Cantina Locale will feature as much seating outdoors as well in the covered breezeway she has taken over with the restaurant.
From the shade of the covered space, diners will be able to watch all the planes take off and land across the street at Daniel Field.
“That wall be be a bright orange,” Heather said as she motioned to the brick wall in the breezeway. All the lights, service ware and hand painted concrete tiles are from Mexico, with her favorites being the sangria and large margarita pitchers.
“I lived in Atlanta for a while, and I used to go to No Mas Cantina all the time. The guys who own it, Steve and Mark, I’ve known for years…they’re just great.. ” Heather shared.
“They’ve had these margarita pitchers there for years, and if you see one of these sitting on a table, you don’t care what it is…’Yeah, I want one of those!’”
Allan Teasley with Knock on Wood has made some beautiful cabinets and will be installing a black walnut bar soon.
The booths feature cantilevered tables (no legs) with a contemporary feel to them. “AAA Iron Works is making these cast iron supports for the pendant lights that will drop in the middle of the booths,” Heather said.
If the finishes and feel of the restaurant are any indication, the food is going to be amazing.
“We’re going to have fifteen different taco combinations, we’re going to do some pico, some queso, some guacamole. Build your own quesadilla with about four or five build you own quesadilla bases, some really good salads and nachos.
But our main focus is on the tacos. Everything we can think of…shrimp, fish, pork belly, a hot honey taco and smoked chicken…you name it,” Heather revealed.
Cantina Locale is aiming for a February-ish opening. Hours will be Tues-Sun 11-9:30 featuring brunch on Sundays.
