In an email to the Metro Spirit on June 12th regarding a piece on the daycare center’s closing, Christen Engel, Sr. Associate Vice President of Communications for Augusta University & Health System, indicated the University’s stated reason for closing the center:
“The financial model for university auxiliaries requires these entities be self-supporting and do not receive support from
state appropriations or tuition dollars.
Unfortunately, the university was required to subsidize this service for several years.
As a higher education institution, the most responsible thing to do was to redirect those funds to our core mission.”
